I will list the components I will be using to do this project here as I buy them.
"SRV" pickguard and "Custom" decals
I bought these on eBay from a guy named Tim in Missouri. He did an excellent job.........Thanks Tim. If you would like to purchase a set for yourself....he also sells them individually.....you can email him at customluthier@yahoo.com
Fender Accessory Kit-Aged White (part# 099-1368-000)
This kit includes three pickup covers, two tone and one volume knob, selector switch tip, a tremolo bar tip and a tremolo cover (the cover is actually mint colored and not aged white)
Fender Stratocaster 3-Ply Pickguard (B-W-B)
As you can see from the picture, this is from a used Strat......little less work for me........I was told this actually came from an older Fender SRV Signiture Strat.
Fender Stratocaster
After a long, LONG search, I have finally found the "donor" guitar that will become the SRV Strat!!! I really lucked out with this one. The only thing I will need to replace is the right hand gold tremolo with a left hand chrome one. This is a 1991 62' Re-Issue Strat (serial number N046441). It has the 3-tone sunburst body and a rosewood neck which is finished with the golden "aged" tint. It also has all the gold hardware and the body has the three cavity routing, not the "swimming pool" routing that comes on so many of the newer Strats, including American Strats.
Fender Vintage Lefty Tremelo
Again, patience and some luck has paid off. Today I recieved the final item I required for the SRV #1 Strat....the chrome lefty tremelo. After plenty of searching I found this nicely relic'd tremelo system, complete with all the mounting screws, claw and springs.....all beautifully aged. It also has the "Fender" stamped saddles. Now when I return from vacation in two weeks, I have everything I need to start the project. This being said there may still be additions to this page, as I will continue looking for other vintage equipment for this project.
Fender Electronics
Since I ordered a new set of Fender Custom Shop Texas Special pickups, I decided to replace the pots and switch as well. So today I went out and picked up three Fender 250K pots and a 5-way switch.
Fender '62 Re-Issue Full Shield Plate
I purchased this full size shield (ie. covers the entire pickguard) to reduce the annoying "hum" that we get with single coil pickups. Its actually a 0.030 thick piece of aluminum, instead of the cheap foil type.
USA Fender Custom Shop Texas Specials
I purchased a set of Texas Special pickups to try and nail that SRV tone. I will be replacing the white pickup covers with the vintage set I aged a couple of weeks ago. These pickups also have the vintage cloth
covered wiring.
Black & White Vintage Cloth Covered Wire
To try and stay as close as possible to SRV's '62 Strat, I purchased some black & white vintage style cloth covered wire that was used on the early
Fender Stratocasters....therefore also used on SRV's #1.
